Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is comprised of three interconnected stories that converge to uncover the truth behind a recent string of tragic deaths in a forest marred by a history of suicides. As one of three people with the power of the Camera Obscura and the ability to see the shadows of those spirited away, you’ll explore the ruins of an eerie inn, a shrine filled with life-size dolls, and a lake full of dead priestesses. Each shadowy location is connected by a stream of water flowing throughout the mountain, and this once holy water is tied to the darkest mystery of all—the history of death and darkness on Mt. Hikami.

Known Issues

1.7.4- Cemu versions crashes when Miu Hinasaki see black hooded ghost while trying to escape from other ghosts in the beginning.
1.7.5 Cemu version crashes when character enters INN.
1.8.0+ Cemu versions freeze at loading screen before gameplay starts.
1.9.0 - Instant black screen after game load. FPS counter shows 30 FPS.
1.9.1 - Runs again. Needs emulateSinglePrecision = true to avoid in-game crash.
1.10.0f - Crash at "Press A" title screen when A pressed.
1.11.0b - Runs again. Some graphic glitches on-screen but it's doable now.
1.11.0c - Crashed after Hisoka scene in Chapter 2.. Major slowdown in the forest on Chapter 2.. Memory leak in some areas..
1.11.3 - Crashed after Hisoka scene in Chapter 2..
1.11.6 - Un-check separable shaders under "experimental" to progress further into the game, but still black faces/skins and crashed at drop 10..
1.14.0c- Un-checking separable shaders (Options - General Settings - Graphics) makes the game playable

Vendor-Specific Issues

  • Broken/scrambled text and UI elements on Nvidia GPUs. This can be fixed by following this guide.

Configuration

For Cemu 1.14.0c you'll need two things in order to able to enjoy this game!
You'll need:
- CemuHook
- Un-check separable shader (in graphics tab under settings).

There are a few things that's still broken in this game graphical wise, like viewing photos and the camera view on the GamePad view.

What's worse is after the cutscene of Hisoka (captured by the ghost), crashed no matter what settings.. Some areas triggered memory leak: had to quickly escape from that area ASAP to prevent crash from out of RAM, also make sure have big RAMs (32 GB in my case).. If you use NVIDIA cards, turn off TileCache via NVIDIA Inspector or RivaTuner to make the screen and text clear without distortion..

This doesn't happen at previous 1.13.2 release, same result with and without CemuHook. Other issues are: 1) In-game Brightness setting doesn't work at all. 2) Audio crackles with annoying static noises all the time, regardless of version and audio settings. 3) Characters suffer from somekind of shader/renderer bug where their models, except for hair and the rest of the scene, become either totally dark, or partially much darker than the scene, or come with weird "square checkers" pattern of correctly bright pixels on a (glitchfully) dark models. I'm attaching an Imgur album showing this exact issue, right here Configuration notes: disablePrecompiledShaders = true, since when you have them enabled the game is literally unplayable, rendering freezes for 5s~15s whenever new models or effects appear on screen, while game simulation keeps running on.
