Super Mario 3D World is a platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. It is the sixth original 3D platform game in the Super Mario series and is the sequel to the 2011 Nintendo 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land. The game follows Mario and friends attempting to rescue fairy-like creatures called Sprixies from Bowser, who invades the realm known as the Sprixie Kingdom. The gameplay is similar to previous installments of the series, with players passing through individual levels to reach Bowser. The game also introduces a power-up called the Super Bell, which turns the character being played into a cat, enabling them to climb walls and use a scratch attack, as well as a character selector.

Known Issues

As of Cemu 1.21.1 this game plays and behaves as expected with Vulkan API (and most likely openGL).
A complete play-through is needed but long lasting issues like flames being invisible, "course clear"-screen missing the ground or being overexposed are now fixed.

Configuration

  • This game does not require non-default settings to run properly. A full list of config options is available in the Config template's documentation. There are also graphic packs available.
  • Recommended settings:
CPU Mode: Single-core recompiler (mutli-core recompiler might in many cases cripple the performance for this title)
Experimental: Debug -> Async Compile (only applies if you are using the Vulkan API.
Cemuhook: Not needed for this title, but if you have it, leave everything set to "default", including the QPC to "Cemu Default".
Previously known issues for older cemu builds

Known Issues

Level 1-5 is slow/crashes

  • This is because Super Mario 3D World creates many dynamic textures in this level.
  • This also leads to visual bugs.
  • Larger GPU Memory and/or Bandwidth is required to reduce/eliminate its impact.
  • Dual Channel memory might help.
  • More powerful GPU may be required.

Level 3-B frame rate dips

  • Happens on all the levels where you swing down to the platform in a large dish.

Luigi Bros. crshes

  • When you try to play the Luigi version of the classic Mario Bros. arcade Cemu crashes after clicking play.

(Faster) Fort Fire Bros./Bowser Express/Switch Shock Circus/Other Level crashes

  • Can be caused due to GPU instability. Lower GPU Core Clock and/or increase voltage and/or power.
  • This GPU instability may be unnoticed due to stability in GPU stress tests.

Typical crash behaviour

  • GPU usage spikes to 100%.
  • Page-file commit increases anywhere from 2 GB to 5 GB.
