Minecraft: Wii U Edition is a Wii U game released by Mojang AB and 4J Studios. It is a port of Minecraft, a sandbox PC game with a blocky aesthetic centered around gathering resources to survive, exploring the randomly generated terrain, and creating worlds and sculptures using a variety of colorful blocks and tools, though the objective is largely based on the player's direction. It was originally released for the Nintendo eShop on December 17, 2015. The original game includes references to the Mario franchise, such as a painting featuring 100m from Donkey Kong (which was based on a painting by Kristoffer Zetterstrand), and the Wii U Edition keeps these references. However, the Wii U Edition also has an exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack that was released alongside the physical edition.
Known Issues
Crashes
- The latest update for the game must be installed for this game to work. Older versions expect a lot of Wii U system files (Wii U Archive Files) to be present.
- Unless you enable the "Mii Crash Fix" Graphics Pack in the Workarounds section, the game will crash without the necessary Wii U Archive files from a Wii U. (See: Workarounds section) Note the "Mii Crash Fix" only works on the latest version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition (v688).
Broken multi player saving
Enabling the "Mii Crash Fix" Graphics Pack prevents the game from getting the Favorite Miis for split-screen user/Mii selection. Only guest Miis will be shown in the guest tab and these:
- Can't save progress under any circumstances.
- Have broken/garbled names with the Crash Fix enabled.
- Are missing their Mii image.
Dumping the Wii U Mii Archive files is strongly recommended to circumvent this and have proper split-screen functionality. Note that only Miis set as favorite in the Mii Maker will ever be shown.
Missing users
When attempting to add another player to the session (split-screen) other users stored in Cemu won't be shown. Cemu currently doesn't expose other user accounts. Only the active account will be shown.
Player progress doesn't carry over from a real console save file
When copying save data from a real console, player progress may disappear and be dissociated with players. As a result all players joining again will have their inventory and position wiped. The world itself is unaffected and any changes made to the world persists.
External files
Minecraft, by standard, requires the Mii Archive files from a real Wii U to boot normally. It uses these to render Mii heads in dialogs that show them and to get any saved Miis saved on the system for split-screen user/Mii selection. The files are stored at mlc\sys\title\0005001b\10056000 on a Wii U's mlc storage.
| filename | size in bytes |
|---|---|
| FFLResHigh.dat | 3,871,104 |
| FFLResHighLG.dat | 3,856,000 |
| FFLResMiddle.dat | 1,490,368 |
| FFLResMiddleLG.dat | 1,489,600 |
These files must be dumped from your Wii U. https://cemu.cfw.guide/dumping-games.html - dumping your Online Files with Dumpling includes the necessary minimum Files. As a last resort, you can enable the "Mii Crash Fix" Graphics Pack to bypass this, at the cost of some local split-screen functionality, or do a full MLC dump, using Dumpling, which is guaranteed to have all the necessary system files for all titles.
Configuration
This game does not require non-default settings other than the additional files listed above to run properly. There are graphic packs available.
