Previously known issues for older cemu builds and solutions
Known Issues
Picto-Box issue
Pictures taken with the Picto Box and the Deluxe Picto Box, are black and not working. As of Cemu version 1.20.1c, the Pictobox works as it should for the Nintendo Gallery and Lenzo's Research Assistant quest.
Nintendo Gallery issue
Pictures taken with the Deluxe Picto Box, and given to Carlov will sometimes go unrecognized or identified as the wrong character. As of Cemu version 1.20.1c, the Nintendo Gallery can be completed, but multiple photos, especially for one time encounters are highly recommended. Any remaining issues with completing the Nintendo Gallery are most likely issues of playing the game on original hardware as well.
Tree texture issue on AMD GPUs
Tree textures are swapped around on some AMD GPUs with the trunk texture appearing on the leafs and vice versa. Works properly as of driver 20.8.3, Cemu 1.21.0 with Vulkan.
AMD tree texture bug on RX 580
Configuration
Runs with default settings, but tweaking is recommended. A full list of config options is available in the Config template's documentation. There are also graphic packs available.
Some situations where the player has to reflect light may not work. To fix this, put the following inside 0005000010143500.ini (USA version) or 0005000010143600.ini (EUR version) located in the gameProfiles folder where Cemu is installed:[1]
# The Wind Waker HD (USA/EUR)
[CPU]
cpuTimer = cycleCounter
emulateSinglePrecision = true
Around 20 fps outdoors, well over 60 inside buildings, which speeds the game too much when inside. Graphics are alright, a majority of music & sounds don't play.
Outdoor areas run at 20 fps and indoor areas at 40-60, which is way too much (maybe implement a frame limiter as wind waker run natively at 30fps on Wii U). Slight graphical issues, nothing serious. Only sound played is music, no sfx
The game itself runs, however, many of the textures have black spots that flicker all over them, and the game seems to be very over saturated, and anything in the sun turns almost completely white (link looks like a ghost his shirt turns a very light shade of baby blue, his hair is the most godawfully strong yellow you have ever seen). Additionally, the textures seem to blend together a little, i.e. hair sinking into foreheads. The game tends to lag and have slowdowns very frequently, despite my having more than enough horsepower to back it up. I don't know if this is due to some misconfiguration of settings on my part, however, running around in some semi-cluttered areas of Outset Island can drop my frames down to somewhere around 14, while also slowing the game down pretty immensely. Standing still I get a constant 30, while an average of 24 or so if I walk.
15 fps outdoors, consistent 30fps indoors, (capped at 30fps?) minor audio issues. Can now select Wii U Pro as controller in-game, low-battery indicator flashes at all times when selected.
Runs pretty good. Most of the time the game runs at 30 fps. In big areas like forsaken fortress or when the game has to draw big shadows FPS lower to 15. Everything else is pretty nice.
15-20fps outdoors, consistent 30fps indoors, and improved audio. Seemingly sill capped at 30fps compared to 1.4.1 and 1.4.2. Low-battery indicator flashes at all times when using Wii U Pro controller in-game. Lighting issues are still present.
Game runs at a pretty solid 27-30 fps even when Link is running. Many textures have black flickering spots and the lighting seems to be a little on the over-saturated side. I haven't progressed beyond Outset Island but so far it seems fairly playable.
Very low frame rates at times, audio works fine, visuals still need major work but are okay in 1.5.3 (unreleased to public). Would wait for next few patches before attempting to play this game.
Game is playable FPS and sound wise. It is not perfect but can be ignored. Game can not be completed due to a lighting glitch in the Earth Temple that has yet to be resolved.
The game is playable, but there's some graphical issues, like black textures and glitchy shadows. Frame drops aren frequent, but the game is still playable.
Game runs fine, average FPS sits around 30. Occasionally will dip into the mid 20's, mostly during indoor/outdoor scene changes or large explosions. Audio plays perfectly.
The game crashes unless you select USA console region, "The game is PAL" but cemu detects it as and USA game. This is nonsense, the game was working Ok in 1.5.6.
When entering the sword tutorial near the beginning of the game, attacking the instructor results in CEMU crashing. Likewise happens, when entering the house near the instructor's house by the shore.
Runs at 30fps all of the time. Fps dips when big amount of particles (lava inside dragon roost island) but after some research it's a "bug" from CEMU. There is slight texture flicker at times but it's in very rare places and doesn't last very long nor is it that noticeable. Some freeze in some dungeons when opening a door to go to another a room but those last 1 - 2 seconds at worst and aren't always there. If in Ice Ring Isle you fall in the water, it is impossible to get back up as the second wooden log that you need to hook can not be climbed. The game is playable up to the very end but the particles bug slows down heavily the game during specific boss fights which is annoying. Pictobox still broken, the GPU has no problem with a 4K graphic pack at all.
Almost perfect, some minor slowdowns here and there (maybe because cemu´s caching). Already played ´till getting the master sword. Runs amazing at 1080p (updating rating when finishing the game).
Runs perfect all the way up to 10K res. I'd like to see 21:9 aspect ratio support if it is possible. A tip if it does not run smoothly for you, try the Cheat Engine speedhack
Runs well even in 4K, some minor visual glitches on indoor areas, and slowdowns on particle heavy areas. Some sectors of the map cause major slow downs to around 15 fps, continuously. Additionally, the pictobox doesn't work.
Extremely playable, but not perfectly playable. The notorious Black Picture bug which breaks the functionality of the Picto Box and Deluxe Picto Box items, is still there, preventing the 100% completion of the game. The largest side quest in the game requires the capture and evaluation of photos, but the NPCs will always fail to do so, thus rendering the mission impossible.
Runs quite good, I have played about 30 min, and FPS where droping from time to time up to 28FPS tops. I've also choosed Pro Controller and mapped XBX 360 controller, the same was done with gamepad, and everything works well. As soon as I beat the game, this note will be updated.
Runs really well, so far graphically perfect with large framerate drops in certain locations. One such location is next to the grandmothers house on the beach but it completely depends on the direction of the camera. Crashed when using the pictobox.
Run well, but have some minor visual glitches, when the game is loaded or after going outdoor and indoor. Drops down fps in preloading and some places. P.S.: Windows is installed old driver with him flip textures ingame.
Runs incredibly well. 30FPS throughout the entire game with no lag whatsoever. No visual glitches. Shader cache used. Picture box working (as far as I can tell).
Runs incredibly well. 30FPS throughout majority of the game. Some minor fps drops to 28 in one segment of Forbidden Woods (more of a stutter which last less than a second) and walking through a few doors. A few minor visual glitches inside of beedles store and in certain areas of dungeons (black flickering on textures but does not affect playability).Complete Shader cache used. Picture box working but the quest is still glitched Lorenzo does not recognize them as legitimate and will not let you pass the 1st objective, I've even tried it full sync w/ g2xDraw at debug menu to no avail.
Game is unfinishable, Ganon's trial Kalle Demos room unacessable. Emulator "freezes" but audio still plays. Runs well other than that, but frame rate drops dramatically primarily near lava or cyclones.
Generally the frame rate stuck on 30-28fps, i played in the 4k resolution pack. But in sities specifics, for example in the volcano on curve of dragon the fps drop is horrible there it does not matter which configuration or graphic pack use, it goes down to 20fps
Mode Vulkan - Shadow 0.5x - Works Great (No test before 1.16.1 & OpenGL) - no crash but just 1 freeze in photo mode (gamepad buttons don't respond) - Game Time = +7h
Vulkan API, did main quest + 2-3 side things with no issues, execpt some slowdowns when compiling lots of shaders and during Gohma fight (when there's a lot pf particles), one major thing, Puppet Ganon fight crashes upon entering the room (even with shaders already compiled, so the game is unbeatable unless you switch to OpenGL for the fight)
Game played very well from start to Ganon's tower, however the game keeps crashing before ganon(?) boss fight (when opening the two huge doors with yellow engravings). This renders the game unfinishable. Tried with Vulkan and with OpenGL, using single core recompiler. Disabling all graphics packs... To no avail. - Game Time = 30h
Game breaking bug fixed with this minor version. Game is now finishable no problem. Massive lags during phase 3 of puppet ganon, but apart from that no other problems to report.
Game plays very well, however the Pictobox is malfunctioning in multiple ways. Anything in the background of a picture will take precedence over the character in focus, even if the other object is not visible - this can be particularly annoying with characters at sea, because anything with water in the background will be a picture of a seagull or Fishman. Additionally, the album freezes for me if I try to erase a picture without scrolling left and right first. I was not able to get around this, so I recommend saving before opening the album.
Playable from beginning to end with no serious problems at all. Framerate stays at ~30fps at all times, except for some rare and minor drops in battle heavy "Eye Reefs". I observed no gfx issues at all. I had to do no game specific tweaking at all to config settings. As of this version, the Nintendo Gallery can be *completed*. The pictograph works exactly as it should and there is no trouble in getting photos right. As I started playing in an earlier version and had to use the graphic pack workaround, I can't tell wether Lenzo's photo quest is completable as well (it should). As a minor gripe, when a photo in the pictographs reel is selected via the A button, we get a small "ErrEula" windows. This can be easily closed via the gamepad or mouse, but it's still irritating to most users. "ErrEula" error messages should be disabled by default.
Played from start to finish with only one issue. Sometimes, when opening the menu when it's been left on the "Items" tab freezes the menu and prevents you from changing what items you have equipped or saving the game. It can only freeze upon opening the menu after loading screens and it doesn't occur too frequently, but it did get annoying since you have to restart Cemu to fix it.
Issue with Nintendo gallery when Carlov identifies many pictographs wrongly still present but only with Vulkan backend. With OpenGL gallery works fine even with multiple pictograps brought together.
