'''Mario Kart 8''' is a kart racing game and the eighth major installment in the Mario Kart series, developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U video game console. Like other games in the series, in Mario Kart 8, players control characters from the Mario franchise and participate in kart racing on various race tracks, using items to hinder opponents or gain advantages. While incorporating game mechanics originally featured in earlier Mario Kart games, Mario Kart 8 introduces anti-gravity sections that allow players to drive on walls or ceilings.

=== General input setup ===
Mario Kart 8 supports native usage of wiimotes and wiimotes with nunchucks attached.
They need to be set as the second, third, forth and fifth controller in Cemu's input settings, while the first controller is set to Wii U Gamepad in order to work.
Enabling '''MotionPlus''' will make the wiimotes not function correctly, and some wiimotes struggle to get the nunchucks to work.
=== Motion controls via wiimotes ===
*The game will crash or freeze after finishing a race on the dual and triple-core recompiler on Cemu versions older than 1.17.2. Use the Single-core recompiler to prevent this.
You can steer the karts by holding the wiimote sideways just like in Mario Kart Wii.
This has to be enabled in-game, by starting a cup, hitting '''+''' on the remote to access the menu, then change the steering option.
=== Broken shadows on the racer select screen and on most tracks ===
*You need a shareddata.bin dump from your Wii U to fix this. Alternatively, you can download [https://sshnuke.net/cemuhook/ Cemuhook] and use sharedFonts.
There are broken shadows on the karts and drivers on the racer select screen and on most tracks, it is more noticeable in darker areas (i.e. Directly under a shadow, or the starting line in Water Park), and less noticeable in lighter areas (i.e. Outside the tunnel in Yoshi Circuit). This issue was tested with a GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU & on both OpenGL and Vulkan.

Known Issues
Mii faces missing
You need to dump the Mii data from your Wii U. The title ID is 0005001B-10056000.
Broken shadows on the racer select screen and on most tracks
There are broken shadows on the karts and drivers on the racer select screen and on most tracks, it is more noticeable in darker areas (i.e. Directly under a shadow, or the starting line in Water Park), and less noticeable in lighter areas (i.e. Outside the tunnel in Yoshi Circuit). This issue was tested with a GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU & on both OpenGL and Vulkan.
Crashing in bootcamp for Apple users
BootCampDrivers.com Adrenalin 18.12.3 V3 fixes the issue of not being able to get past the checkered flag.
Tested and working on 2018 MacBook pro's with AMD Radeon Pro 560X
There is a flickering issue on 4-player multiplayer (flickering occurs in the top left an bottom left quadrants).
Single-player and 2-player multiplayer are not affected.
Slow emulation, yet GPU usage oscillates around 40-60% Some graphical weirdness with the skybox and the lighting is off. The music loops improperly and unlistenable sfx.
25-40 fps in GP and 45-60 fps in Time Trial. Only minor graphic glitches with the sky/background and certain character models/textures, appears to be AMD GPU specific.
Replays after a cup will fail to play and instantly put you to the cup presentation, Time Trials run almost flawlessly unless loading new content into memory, all cups run slow because of additional NPCs.
The game menu loads, at 60FPS. However, when loading a race (any race), Windows says the driver stopped responding and restarts it, which makes Cemu hang.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfiCvZ5HnPw As shown in test video some maps are almost 100% playable with around 55 FPS and some stuttering, whilst some maps are played with 40FPS.
Game loads perfectly, but when entering any race, the screen turns white, and only UI elements appear, but stack on top of each other and do not disappear.
Sky is bugged. Sound effects are bugged. Characters are too dark on the selection screen. No videos in cup/mode select (black screen where it should be displayed). Water isn't transparent (when viewed from above).
Greatly improved stability overall. Better performance in GP mode (30-40fps) and seemingly ~10 less fps on average in TT mode. . AMD-specific sky issue (bright yellow spots/lighting) is fixed and kart headlights are displayed properly. AMD GPU-specific minor graphic glitches with very specific [jumping] characters/models is still present.
Gran Prix with an average FPS of 40 to 50. Versus and Time Trial 55 average of 55 to 60 FPS. Less visual glitches and same sound problems compare to previous versions.
Shader and graphic issues primarily in the last 2 cups (Leaf and Lightning Cup) and you will get a black screen after the credits roll because it unlocks amiibo character.
Game is playable except having some hiccups when in gameplay. Emulator can not load all graphical layers as some menu text is missing. The brightness and contrast for the 3D models should be balanced for menus. They appear dark.
Audio glitches, lighting is messed up, but textures are perfect. Message boxes fail to actually show message. Races have stuttering. Not too much different from the 1.5.0 release in that regard, but audio is better.
MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE LATEST UPDATE - it improves the FPS a lot AND you get 200cc. Only the occasional stutter in FPS. Lighting in general seems to be weird, either blindingly bright or non-existently black. Lighting is particularly glitchy with kart headlights on Toad's Turnpike. Audio is glitchy whenever a new sound plays (eg drifting, changing from the cloud to the thunderstorm section in Cloudtop Cruise, hang gliding).
The Game works great. I could finish the first cup witout any big issues. Except the last Racetrack. The last Racetrack has many, many glitches. Everything was like the hole game is censored :D Everything else works perfektly. Cemu is using 2/8 Threads and 1/2 GPUs.
Lighting issues in character select and in game. Crackling sound. Stutters in gameplay. No text in popup boxes (Quit menu, new character unlocks, etc.)
Other than the extremely long load times and long loading hitches that can happen occasionally mid-race, it is very playable and I can assume it can be played to completion. The only other real problems are just purely visual and audio bugs, but they don't get in the way of gameplay.
48-60 FPS on menus. Occasional speed drops / audio glitches on menus. 30-45 FPS in game. Audio is 95% perfect. Game freezes completely every so often (say, every 10-15 seconds). Audio keeps playing during freeze. Beautifully smooth gameplay except for freezes.
Time trials are almost playable, with a couple of lightning issues in many areas which can be ignored. Races take a big FPS drop though to around 35-45fps. Also, random lag spikes can be had at the start of the race, but they reduce in number considerably as the race goes.
Graphics aren't perfect but are getting better with every patch, in game audio can be smooth but has issues which make sounds sound unpleasant at times, game feels smooth even at lower fps such as 45 due to sound not slowing down with the game. Loading times can be long. Very enjoyable as of this version.
First race starts with a lot of stuttering, with the FPS dropping below 30, but stabilizes quickly. The second race is a lot smoother, staying constantly above 50 FPS and hitting 60 often (with some very rare drops into the 40s). There are some menu elements that don't show up (such as the 50/100/150cc illustration animations), and the character selection models are greyed-out. Also, load times are long. Overall, though, definitely playable.
Game is fairly playable, but the FPS is super variable. One second i have a stable 60, then 0, then 60 and so goes the loop (means that it stutters about every 5-10 seconds and when entering water and alike it stutters heavily).
This version of Cemu really improved the overall performance of this title compared to previous versions. Long loading times and initial loading hitches are still a thing, but once it gets going, it runs butter smooth on my mid-range PC. Visually looks much better and closer to how it looks on console too.
there are some graphical glitches and sund glitches and on 1 player it runs from 60fps on 2 players it runs from 60-30fps and on 3 players it runs from 16 to 30 fps but mostly bellow 30 and somtimes a little bit laggy in 2 players too
while playing fps sometimes dips down to 30fps occurs between laps, entering and exiting indoor/outdoor, land/water sections. text in menus aren't always displayed
Minor lighting errors, missing text on pop-up menus. Other than that only occasional lag spikes when rendering cutscenes. Completely playable and very fun
Aside from slight graphical imperfections and the occasional slowdown during loading, the game runs beautifully and is 100% playable. 2015 27" 5k iMac 3.3Ghz
Can be perfectly playable in Time Trails with now ALMOST all levels can be ran at 60 FPS. With many characters in the race, the game will have some more lag. Everything looks perfect except for weird chunks in some levels are glitchy with shaders and objects looking stretched.
Minor stuttering during initial shader caching, occasional microstuttering (usually during environment transitions), occasional graphical glitches (stretched objects, shadows randomly appearing, text missing from some menus.
Frequent FPS drops, under 30-40 fps in many cases, even after the track has already been played and the shader cache has already been built. Very rarely 55-60 fps. Minor graphical glitching. CPU 50-60% usage, barely any load on GPU.
Here and there mini freezes upon first playthrough but other than the missing UI elements (map, text in notifications) a better experience than on Wii U with the 4k pack
In order to make this game run with this GPU (thanks to the old legacy drivers 15.7.1 or 16.2.1), you have to run the game in fullscreen the whole time. That's a workaround.
Missing text in textboxes. There are some texture glitches at the start of the race and the framerate drops and rises frequently making it not enjoyable enough to play. The multiplayer mode works but with alot of texture glitches and massive framerate drops which never goes to 60.
Game very playable, no missing textures, only text is missing in some textboxes. Didn't test the multiplayer, and I didn't install a texture pack. Sometimes the game drops to 50 fps, but mostly 60fps.
There is quite a lot of stutters (also after round 1 but les noticeable) generally 50 fps but after a while it will jump up to 60. I did no multiplayer testing. Also keep in mind this is a laptop.
Game is playable, but tends to shudder quite a bit. Fps gradually will pick up after starting race. Some of the graphic UI in menus is not visible. Characters on the selection screen sometimes temporarily fall to a dark shade colour. Mii functionality and Multiplayer mode was not tested.
Works well. Missing some menu UI. 4 player split screen is almost perfect, the FPS in that situation can go down to 50 which is kind of annoying (most of the time is 57-60).
1.8.1b, patreon release; Without cemuhook: Some Menu text is missing, Some graphics in Menu's do not show up. With cemuhook 0.4.4.0 both of these features appear and the game runs as intended at 60FPS, with no issues. I did notice a slight lighting bug when selecting a character but nothing that takes away from gameplay in anyway.
Works @ 60fps 95% of the time. Dialog boxes are missing text when you win a cup and there are some shadow bugs on tracks where the lighting is mimicing early morning or late evening (this happens in certain corners. The shadows aren't alligned with the objects creating them and appear to be moving around the landscape.)
Text issue fixed by downloading the latest fonts from CEMUHook. FPS info is from running the game at regular settings, with GPU buffer cache accuracy set to low. When using the Mario Kart 360p/540p graphics packs, gameplay stays in the 50-60 range. Graphics driver crashes on some courses but I'm sure that's more of an Nvidia issue than CEMU.
Without CEMUHook the game had massive lag spikes and a slight font issue but after installing CEMUHook the game ran at a solid 60fps and the font issue was fixed.
Game stutters a lot when loading textures for the first time, especially when entering areas with water. Missing text on screens after completing cups. Mii head is black and its name appears as "?????". Game goes to an infinite black screen after completing all cups and watching credits (restarting CEMU makes things go back to normal).
Updates and DLC installed. Game runs at constant 60 FPS in all modes with the occasional shader build stutter. Cemuhook fixed the not playing main menu videos.
Game refuses to run specifically on the RX480 on any recent drivers. This is an issue caused by AMD but not looked into or patched by the CEMU dev team. Any other affected games are unknown.
FPS lag only barely happens (mostly only at the end of the loading screen). Wii U only appears with Cemuhook or shareddata.bin (which i couldn't find on the internet). sharedFonts have some issues with German. All Mii heads are missing. Player names only are ?????. Only i am visible on the minimap, no Bots and no other players in multiplayer.
Only time trial mode can be played as the rest goes to hang during the loading screen(Probably due to the presence of more npcs). Apart from that, no visual bugs or glitches and the game runs smoothly with slight dips in fps now and then.
Using 8GB 2400 DDR4 RAM, complete shader cache and Mii dump files. Right from the start everything was smooth. Not a single graphics issue or gameplay issue. Always 60 fps steady, no shader caching. Feels like playing on a real Wii U, so I dare give this game its first Perfect rating.
Cemuhook 0.5.6.2. Graphic packs: 1080P Res, GX2DrawDone ON. CPU mode: Single-core recompiler. GPU buffer cache accuracy: High. , It actually plays pretty smoothly but it just sometimes hiccups and slightly stutter. And there is also another bug that slightly lags the screen and play the Soundeffect 5 Times In the Character Sel-Menu. Also Note I'm using the single core Recompiler the Dual and Triple Core Recomps Get The Game To Crash after First or Second Race
Perfect Update to 1.11.4b fixed much glitches just like the error that Mario Party 10 doesn't works. But I think you must load a track once before you can play it without soft loading lags. After that it works nice.
Cemuhook 0.5.6.2. Graphics packs: 2560x1080. Runs perfectly after initial shader cache generation with very little to no stutter on any map. Running triple core recompiler reduces stuttering to zero overall, but the game will crash after one or two races.
Cemuhook 0.5.6.3. Graphics packs: 3840x2160. Cached shaders: 11,530. A few stutters here and there but the experience was acceptable. A few textures didn't load properly, and I experienced large frame drops when drifting or when multiple entities were on the screen. I would recommend using a 1080p graphics pack instead of a 4k graphics pack, like I used, as I experienced slightly higher FPS. I also recommend using low GPU buffer accuracy and precompiled shader cache from the internet.
Cemuhook 0.5.6.3. Graphics packs: 3840x2160. Pretty good experience. I experienced very little micro-stutter. My GPU buffer cache accuracy is at medium, and I currently have 11,530 cached shaders. GPU usage averaged at around 10-40%. There were a few random stutters with VSync on, so its best to disable that. I didn't see any graphical issues, although there was a bit of stuttering on the first lap of every race, but it didn't hurt gameplay much. Good experience overall. There was also a few random crashes, but it was extremely rare (I only experienced it twice over about 20 hours of gameplay).
Computer: Alienware 17 R4 with GTX 1080. Hard drive: 2TB Seagate Firecuda 2.5" HDD. RAM: 32GB DDR4-2400. Graphics packs: 3840x2160 V-sync. CPU mode: Single-core recompiler. Cached shaders: about 3500. Awesome experience - there is almost no micro-stutter. I initially set the GPU buffer cache to High in the hopes that it would fix some missing text like in SSB4 on CEMU but that just ended up causing lag to the game, even on 1080p (the game would drop to 25 fps at its lowest, but no microstutter). With that set to Low, as well as the GPU forced to the GTX 1080 (my iGPU is a HD 630), framerate jumped to 60 and stayed there. However, H.264 as well as certain text is still broken without Cemuhook. Granted, I've only played Time Trials, but still a very good result.
I use Cemuhook 0.5.6.4 and a shader cache of 11,114 shaders. In Time Trials, the first race I play usually runs at ~50 FPS, the second race runs at ~35 FPS, the third race at ~20-25 FPS and the fourth at ~12-15 FPS. This happens regardless of the order in which I play the tracks. The FPS keeps dropping after each consecutive race even in the Grand Prix. In the Grand Prix, the FPS is a bit lower than in the Time Trials because of the NPCs (the first race occurs at ~40 FPS).
RAM: 16GB 3200 MHz. Graphics packs: 3840x2160 and Higher Quality Shadows. CPU mode: Single-core recompiler. Mode: Conventional Shaders. For the most part it performs and looks great. "Neo Bowser City" was the only map with dips at a few points in the map down to 40fps. Minor reflection and shadow problems in a few maps such as sky lights in "Super Bell Subway" and bad shadows and shadow flickering in "Big Blue". Picking up an item causes noticible stutter. Switching to conventional shaders (re-introduced in 1.11.6) from separable solved crash on startup.
Cemuhook 0.5.6.4. 8GB 2400MHz RAM + 8GB pagefile. Graphics Packs: 1920x1080, Higher Quality Shadows. CPU mode: Single-core Recompiler. Shader Type: Separable. Plays at a perfect 60 alone, the 45 fps drop was due to 2 player local split screen play. No noticeable slowdowns, stutter, or visual artifacts, even in Grand prix. Online plays as well or sometimes better than single player. The missing text and Mii faces are still present although.
After the shadercache is built by racing once on every track (or using a complete transferable cache from YouTube description links), everything is buttery smooth everywhere with no graphical glitches, especially when using triple-core recompiler (unstable). If you can stand missing features that need authentic Wii U dump files... This game plays perfectly.
Cannot get more than 40 fps in local 4 players. 60fps rock solid in 1 player and 2 player modes. If anyone can achieve 60fps in 4 players, please share the settings because I can get 60fps in Smash Bros.
There is no way of getting a solid 60FPS with this game on my PC. It looks like there is some issue with the specific i5 3570k architecture. Tried every config possible, CPU is always at 100%, but frame rate is very unstable, especially with multiplayer and complex races

CemuHook, graphics pack, recommended settings + shader cache. Bizarre error, starts at 60fps decreasing to 30 during Grand Prix mode, averaging between 5 and 10 fps drop each track change. Occurs in Time Trial mode too if playing tracks continuously.
Using CemuHook Version 0.5.7.0, no graphics packs (native 720p), single core recompiler, recommended settings, and 11,897 cached shaders. Please note I tested this on a laptop (Dell G3), so temperatures were a bit high as the fans ran at full speed. Game runs well but will occasionally drop to 30 FPS when there are a lot of things happening on the screen. Game averages at around 55 FPS. The game would also crash when a race finished using the dual core or triple core recompiler.
Single core recompiler, 1080p graphics, precompiled shaders disabled. Very rarely will drop to 59 FPS and cause a millisecond of stutter but otherwise perfect.
CemuHook 0.5.7.1, single-core recompiler, 1080P with 4X shadow resolution. AMD 19.4.2 drivers with OCed HBM and undervolted GPU. Very rare slowdowns, generally 60FPS. First time I tried it in a long while, worked at the first try.
Settings: 1080p Patch/Shadow Res. x4/60FPS MP Patch/Triple-core recompiler Works perfectly. Only lag occurs when generating shaders, can be bypassed by using pregenerated cache.
(OpenGL) Running at 5K with shadows tuned up to 300%. I can maintain 60FPS most of the time with minimal slowdowns. Miis still have no eyes but other than that it's quite bug free.
Dual core and triple core recompiler now work as of 1.17.2. Running on Dual core recompiler (OpenGL) with resolution at 5K and Shadows at 300%. Game is running very smooth with minimal slowdowns.
(OpenGL) All Cups run perfectly without any slowdown at 1080p when using Wii U Gamepad. When setting the emulated controller to a Wii U Pro Controller, the game has sudden lag spikes whenever rumble occurs (like when collecting coins or releasing your Mini Turbo). When spectating Online, all of the characters stop moving and after 10-20 seconds you get a communication error.

Vulkan, 4K, all graphics packs to max (shadow, bloom...), 60FPS Splitscreen mod, no issues while playing all cups in split-screen (2 players), using 2 controllers as a pro controller.
Vulkan, graphics pack activated resolution 1080p, high shadows and anisotropic filter in x16. Using Xbox One controller as Wii U Pro Controller without issue
